Hello
I like building
user interfaces.

I started my journey as a UI engineer way back in 2002, building websites on Geocities and Angelfire with as many animated GIFs as possible. I quickly learned that I could supplement my paintball habit by building websites for paintball stores, clubs, and teams in exchange for gear. A couple years later, I attended design school at RIT, where I learned the fundamentals of professional design and development.

Where've
I been?

Since then, I've accumulated over 15 years of professional experience with variety of companies. From small advertising agencies, to tech startups, and large data-driven companies.
Wherever I am, I bring a passion for delightful user experiences, and a focus on user empathy, utility, and performance... I also just try to have fun along the way!
Outside of work
I like to...

When I’m not working, I’m usually spending time with my wife, Megan, our two daughters (Eloise and JoJo), and our yellow lab: Lucy. In my (admittedly limited) free time, I try to stay active by cycling (mostly road, but sometimes MTB), and snowboarding. My passive hobbies include watching (and reviewing) horror movies, retro gaming (SSX3, Silent Hill 2, and Mario Kart 64 are a few of my personal favorites), modding/fixing retro gaming consoles, and watching the Buffalo Bills.

Where'd I spend
my skill points?
Frontend development is my jam. I love the challenge of presenting complex insights in an intuitive way. I've been focusing on it for the better part of 15 years now, and my skills reflect that focus.

New Relic
Senior Software Engineer (6yrs)During my 6 years as a Senior Software Engineer at New Relic, I helped users understand petabytes of system transaction data through Distributed Tracing. I enabled them to resolve errors, improve latency, and monitor their complex architectures.
I closely collaborated with designers, project managers, and other engineers to deliver features based on customer requests and feedback (a feature I helped develop was even instrumental in landing 2 of the biggest customer deals in New Relic's history!).
Within my team, I provided mentorship for colleagues to facilitate their skill development and institutional knowledge, led several large refactors, substantially reduced bundle size and tech debt, improved test coverage, and facilitated UI coding standards and working agreements.

Koan
Founding Senior Frontend Engineer (2yrs)I joined Koan (later acquired by Quantive) as a Founding Senior Frontend Engineer and helped take them 0 to 1 by launching their initial React application. Our goal was to help companies build high-performing teams by providing a platform for transparent, continuous feedback. We later expanded our functionality to include team and org alignment via OKR tracking and reporting.
Being part of a small seed-stage startup (2 engineers, 1 designer, and 2 founders at its inception), I wore many hats. I collaborated closely with the founders, designer, and our early customers to define and build features. I helped implement tooling, CI/CD, and observability monitoring. I also helped define our UI architecture and coding standards.

Pathbrite
Lead Frontend Engineer (3yrs, 8mo)A former co-worker recruited me to join Pathbrite as a Lead Frontend Engineer for the small (~25 person) education technology startup. Before it was acquired by Cengage Learning, I helped build a portfolio, grading, and assessment platform (LMS) for students, teachers, and potential employers alike.
I led the frontend team by refining our architecture and standards, providing mentorship and pair programming, and close collaboration with designers, founders, and customers to plan and define product changes and new features. I also significantly improved the maintainability, accessibility, and reliability of the application.

Luxurious Animals
Founding Interactive Developer (4yrs, 9mo)A former ACD at Big Spaceship (below) recruited me to join Luxurious Animals as a Founding Interactive Developer as my first "real adult" job. As the first employee of the new advertising agency, I did a little bit of everything: frontend engineering, 3d modeling and animation, design, and even some video editing. Slowly, the agency grew and as we hired more people I gradually focused more on the frontend engineering side of things.
During my time here I helped deliver diverse projects, under stringent deadlines, ranging from websites, games, and applications to interactive ads and commercials. Our key clients included HBO (Game of Thrones!), Morgan Stanley, and Porsche.

Big Spaceship
Summer Intern (3mo)I was recommended for a summer internship position at Big Spaceship at the end of my junior year at RIT. During my short time here, I learned process and technique from some of the best minds in design and advertising. I helped work on pieces of a promotional website and interactive experience for Universal Pictures.
